We don’t care what you think of us, we don’t care if we rub you the wrong way, but we want to offer a little more than the average straight edge band. We’d like to create thoughts, we want to deal with issues that are real. We’d like to use your brain to question things, to stay aware. Straight edge should mean a little more than screaming the word go and singing songs about friendships gone bad or the pain inside. Music is a weapon. It’s the best way of spreading ideas and we feel if we had nothing more than our personal life to sing about then it would be totally senseless and irrelevant, cause the world doesn’t revolve around only us and there are greater problems at hand. The Golden Words... Chokehold have understood the main issues. Sometimes it's hard to create some ideal, especially in hardcore music, but this band will always be a masterpiece in the hardcore scene for me. They sing about things, that many of people has forgotten, they put a soul into their music, the music - the weapon. This is the most powerful weapon, that can give much to people without a bloodshed. And Chokehold have understood this thing very fast and didn't forget about it all the time they were active as a band. One of the best Canadian bands. If to talk about 90's newschool hardcore, these guys are the first example of it. When you hear them once, you'll never forget then. It was the first band from newschool, that I have heard. That was something new for me. Since that time I have listened lots of bands, but Chokehold have stayed at my heart and memories forever. In that time I haven't had their vynil yet and I couldn't find their music in the Internet, so I tried to understand the words from the record and was positively astonished by the fury of their message. At last, when I could get this release and opened the leaflet with the lyrics and comments, I fall in love with them for the second time. One of the most radical and politically involved bands of those times. In every song they shout about things, that are enclosing the world and humanity to death - both spiritual and physical. They eager for struggle and changes and shout about it! Every word, every line brings the sincerity and the truth. Instilled 7" is a real masterpiece.
That is the thing, that i would listen again and again forever. This 5 songs are always in my head. I often envy the people, who was lucky to get to their gigs, who have felt that charming atmosphere of fury, sincerity and the truth, who could get on the scene and to sing along with their singer, to add one more voice of resistance. Neither Firestorm, nor Canon could be compared with this release. Lyrically its just a canonic newschool with striking, sometimes breaking, riffs and angry shouting voice. Starting form the first song Burning Bridges, you get a goose skin and you start having a strange feeling inside, which is improving every second. You can't stay aside anymore. You are dedicating yourself to this music and this words. Animal liberation, earth liberation, human liberation will only come through education - the last line in the song Burning Bridges. A knowledge and information are the main weapons. Mindset is very fast and short, and the sense can be interpreted in a short way either - no one can judge the ways of loving someone. If we can't understand something, it doesn't mean that it is wrong.Instilled is about when you are living in the society, you must do the best to stay a human and not to turn into the creature, who's life credo would be built on consumption. When some people are losing sense of something, they get into a religion, which swallows them as a drugs. Not so many people can see, that religion is just a bunch of homophobic and sexist dogmas and the way to earn money and to enslave minds for purposes. THe song Anchor is about this. Culture Cease... There are a lot of nationalities. Each has got its own customs and values. Very often the dominating culture tries to enslave and discriminate the smaller one. Very frequently the so-called "white people" were playing the role of aggressor. The history is rich on examples of "white" genocide to other nationalities and culture, that cause reflexive reaction and bunch of social problems. Is it so hard to understand, that when being different we are all equal? Live but don't threaten everyone else's life. By this song is ending this musical masterpiece. Мы хотим создавать мысли, мы хотим говорить о реальных вещах. Мы хотим использовать ваши мозги чтобы вопрошать о вещах, чтобы быть осведомленными. Стрэйт эдж должен значить большее, чем слово "go" и песен о расторгнутой дружбе или боли внутри. Музыка - это оружие. Это лучший способ распространять идеи и нам кажется, что если бы не было больше тем для песен кроме личной жизни, тогда все это будет бессмысленным и ненастоящим, потому что мир не вращается вокруг нас и есть бОльшие проблемы, о которых стоит задумываться. Молчание означает смерть, больше чем в одном значении этой фразы.

Золотые слова... Chokehold просекли фишку. Иногда сложно создать какой-то эталон и идеал тем более в хардкор музыке, но для меня эта группа всегда будет шедевром хардкор сцены. Они говорят и поют о том о чем многие позабыли, они вкладывают в свою музыку всю свою душу, музыка – это оружие. Это сильнейшее оружие которое способно очень многое дать людям без пролития крови. И Chokehold это очень быстро просекли и не забывали все время пока были активными на сцене. Одна из лучшых групп Канады. Если говорить о нюскул хардкоре 90-ых эти ребята сразу приходят на ум. Однажды услышав их ты уже никогда их не забудешь. Для меня это была одна из первых групп которые я услышал из нюскула. Тогда это было для меня что то новое, с того времени я переслушал кучу групп но Chokehold навсегда отложились в моей памяти и в моем сердце. В то время у меня еще не было их винила и ихней лирики в интернете я не мог найти,по этому пытался разбирать слова на слух и просто поражался ярости ихнего послания. Когда же я наконец-то смог подержать в своих руках этот релиз и открыть вкладыш с текстами и коментариями я просто заново влюбился в эту группу. Одна из самых радикальных и политизированных групп того времени. В каждой песни они кричат о том что с каждым мигом приводит мир и человечество к его разрушению – как физическому так и моральному. Они жаждут борьбы и перемен и орут на всю глотку об этом! Каждое слово, каждая строчка несут в себе искренность и правду. Семерка Instilled это действительно шедевр. Это то что я буду переслушывать всегда. Эти 5 песен живут в памяти постоянно. И очень часто я очень завидую тем людям которые в свое время смогли побывать на ихнем выступлении, которые смогли ощутить ту удивительную атмосферу ярости искренности и правды, которые могли вылезти на сцену и вместе с вокалистом пропеть песню и добавить еще один голос протеста. С этой семеркой не сравняется ни Firestorm, ни Сanon – этот релиз просто несравним. Музыкально это просто каноничный нюскул хк с качевыми иногдо ломаными рифами и яростным кричащим вокалом. С первой песни Burning Bridges появляются мурашки на коже и ощущаешь какое то странное чувство внутри которое укрепляется с каждой секундой. Ты уже не можешь остатся равнодушным. Ты полностью отдаешься этой музыке и этим словам. Animal liberation, earth liberation, human liberation will only come through education – это последняя строчка Burning Bridges. Знание и информация это главное оружие. Mindset очень быстрая и короткая,и так же коротко можно выразить ее смысл – никто не в праве решать кто, как и кого должен любить. Если мы что-то непонимаем это не значит что это что-то неправильно. Instilled о том что существуя в обществе с его законами нужно всеми силами остатся в первую очередь самим собой и человеком,а не превратится в существо смыслом жизни которого есть процес потребления. Многие люди когда теряют смысл чего-то уходят в религию, которая как наркотик заглатывает их. Но немногие видят то что почти каждая религия это просто набор гомофобско-сексистских канонов и способ зароботка денег и порабощения умов в своих целях. Именно об этом песня Anchor. Culture Cease… Существует много национальностей. У каждой свои обычаи и свои ценности. Очень часто та культура которой количественно больше ущемляет и пытается порабощить ту которой меньше. Очень часто в роли культуры агресора были так сказать «белые люди». История показывает немало случаев геноцида «белыми» других национальностей и культур, что вызывает ответную агресию и кучу социальных проблем. Неужели сложно понять что мы все разные но в то же время одинаковы. Живи так, чтобы ты не ставил чью то жизнь под угрозу. Именно этой песней заканчивается этот музыкальный шедевр.
