This post is not about music, bands etc. I want to write about my good friend. Her name is Lina, and she live in Saint Petersburg - the best city in Russia.

I think she has talent. She can draw really interesting and nice looked pictures. My child dream was drawing good (but I never draw good) and when I see her pictures I undestand that they describe my dream. I like her style, her emotions, her atmospehere and darkness which you can feel through the pictures, and also I like her meaning of things she draw. This is the main reason why I wanted to write here. One Truth blog is only one place in web where I can write some stuff and many people will read it. So I decided to try help she with her dreams come true and shared this interesting creative person with you, friends.
She used to draw covers for bands, picture designs. (you can see her design selling on Panic Records - http://www.panicrecords.net/estore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=583 )
At the moment she is in process of interesting work! Lina is doing limited press of hand made zine with her best pictures.

This is the best DIY I ever see! She will sell later some copies for several bucks so don't lose this! Personally I pre-order several copies)))

Also some stuff from Tim. He describes this band - I also was in a I guess you could call it post hardcore/emo band called THE PORCHFRONT CHAT. The band did not last long. The line up for that was me on vocals, my brother Justin on guitar(he was also in Roosevelt and Burgundy) Chris who played bass in Roosevelt(he later played in Red Roses for a Blue Lady) and Dave Leblue from Mercury Program on drums. We recorded a tape right before the band broke up, that was never officially released and other than a handful of people no one has heard.

This band had a chance to be second Sensefield!!! Awesome emo rock, very emotion atmosphere, guitar without distortion, sometimes 2 voices. All fans of true emo will enjoy this stuff.

Big thanks for Tim from Roosevelt - now we all have a chance to hear some really rare stuff from 90's emo hardcore era. Some days ago I posted Roosevelt demo tape which was distributing locally for a few copies. Here is another rare but good band. Burgundy was the band that came out after Roosevelt broke up . It is 3/5 of Roosevelt and Dave Leblue of Mercury Program on bass. It is more rocking and emo than Roosevelt. I like this stuff so check them. The best moments are when guys from 90's contact me cause I post their band, say thanks for this and give us a chance to discover new rare bands from that era.

Late in the summer of 1990, four friends in Vancouver started their first band. As Sparkmarker, they toured North America extensively, stormed through Europe, recorded several dozen songs which appeared on a score of releases as well as ten different compilations. Widely considered the forefathers of the post-hardcore scene in Canada, Sparkmarker simply describes their music as “loud. ” They made their mark both musically and socially, especially in Vancouver where the lack of an all-ages venue prompted their participation in starting the Gest Quest co-op. Sparkmarker continued to keep the do it yourself ethic alive by releasing several of their own records, a couple of which far exceeded anyone’s expectations in sales and exposure.

After almost a sum total of a year on tour in their seven year existence, Sparkmarker called it quits towards the end of their summer 1997 tour in Europe.

My favourite 90's emo band!

Hoover was an American post-hardcore band from Washington, DC. Hoover was formed in 1992, and went on to produce some of the more intense music to appear on the Dischord Records label in the 1990s. Unusually, three of the four members shared vocal duties equally. They are often credited as being a progenitor of math rock along with bands like Drive Like Jehu; indeed, while the band did definitely display influences from DC indie pioneers Fugazi, they also drew comparisons to DLJ and other non-DC bands. Hoover split up in 1994, and have reformed twice: once in 1997 to record a mini-album of ‘odds and ends’, and again in 2004 to tour the US and Europe. It is not clear whether the band will continue to be active. Other projects in which members of Hoover have been involved include The Crownhate Ruin, June of 44, Abilene and Regulator Watts.

Empathy was an emo band from Royal Oak, Michigan that was an important part of the midwest emo movement, in the mid 90s. They formed in the summer of 1993, initially as a trio with Kevin on guitar, Nathan Miller on bass and Graham Pawluk on drums. In August of 1993 Jay Palumbo joined on vocals and in October Mike came on second guitar. On January 22nd, 1994 this line-up recorded four songs at Sound Camp Studio, three of which were used for their first 7” “…Of Innocence” on Element Records in May 1994. Kevin quit the band, but was replaced by Drew Cramer.

In June of 1994, they recorded all the material which would be used for their album “Under the Lost Smile” at Woodshed Studio, but could not settle a record deal until much later in the year when they were approached by friend Mike Warden of Conquer the World Records. The album was re-mixed in December of 1994 and released on CD and 12” LP in early 1995. Later that year they were paired with another midwest emo band that was making its mark, Enkidle. “Vinyl for Fools” was released on 7” in mid 1995, and would later on be repressed on CD by Initial Records.

In 1996, the band formed their own record label, Cascade Records, and would release albums by Thoughts of Ionesco, 7000 Dying Rats, Chelsea’s Gone Under as well as co-release their last EP “I Need” with Conquer the World on CD and 12”. The band broke up very shortly after this.

Hardcore band from San Jose, California, 1993-1996. Heavy/noisy yet with a sense of melody. Tearwater published a 7” on Chapter Records. A full length was also recorded but Chapter Records soon folded and the album was never released. The band split soon afterwards, members kept making music in other bands, most notably Jejune and Ex-Ignota.

interview with Mike from Conquer The World Records

This is just part of interview with Mike who did CTW Records in 90's. Maybe sometime we will make second part of our conversation but at the moment I am posting all that I have. Click READ MORE to read stuff.

1. Hi Mike. Can you tell few words about yourself at the moment? How old are you? What are you doing now - some job, family etc?

Well first of all thanks for you know just taking the time to contact me to share your feelings about the label and some of your favorites. I am in my late 30s and i have a birthday coming up in August which i think will make me 39 but I might be 38 I don't know i don't think about it much really. How old am I was born 1972 august 23. I never got married, and had a few relationships, never got a carrer either. I've always been an entrepanuer of some sort or the other. Since 2005 I have been running an indie promotion company for social networking websiites. I called it ctwpromotions and I am still running it in a small capacity but since Myspace really isn't the focus now of indie musicians I don't do very well because the levels of security on Facebook prohibit from really promoting strong
At one time ctwpromotions had upwards of 15+ clients rotating through and now it's very low.
I do a promo package for myspace, facebook and twitter for artists for $100 a week or sometimes less and I'm still here it's just not as prominent as it used to be.
I am in a relationship for 2 years now and share an apartment close to where I ran the label from at my mothers place in the trailer park which was seen in the Ionesco DVD documentary
I don't have a job, and I haven't had one since like at least 10 years and that was delivering pizza as i did for years during the label to help out and cover expenses etc.
I might actually go start a carrer working with computers in the IT field as when these current ebay sales and records run out of income I'll be pretty hard pressed. Another thing which might be interesting is last August I started an online website called Tvmike.tv which is still there and I learned and became one of the top live streamers or internet broadcasters for underground and some professional pool and billiards matches.
I've been a pretty serious lifestyle hustler pool player for some years now. I'd say around 6 years really and thats most what I used to spend my time doing. Playing pool. I'm not like a professional level player but through my creative side and skills I help other players and fans of the game enjoy it through my broadcasts.
Just like in the hardcore scene where i had a nickname Mike CTW of course I'm known as TvMike here in the pool world. That was given to me by a friend of mine as when your pool player sometimes you are given a nickname.
It was no surprise that I would create a new label so to speak using these skills through tvmike.tv so now I also author and sell these DVD matches that I cover.
So I'm putting out art and helping other artists but just in a different medium. Unfortunately even this doesn't seem to be enough to make it financially. The current illuminati driven economy prohibits even some of the best ideas from really coming to fruition.
I made a post on my facebook recently that even though I am really smart and intelligent creatively with concepts and ideas even if I re invented the wheel again I couldn't sell it because nobody has any money.
Not to drag this on too long because it's most likely not very interesting in regards the work of Mike CTW by TvMike was contracted to produce a match between Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer and those guys in the pool world are world reknowned legends of the game. That would be something like Henry Rollins asking me to come film him doing a special spoken appearance or something. For me it was a huge honor and we got to make this DVD box set out of it and in theory I should be able to sell thousands of them but as I mentioned the economy is so bad that even that idea to make a living producing Pool DVDS and live matches it's no possible.
So I'm waiting for a call about possibly getting my first "REAL" job...
And i am waiting for this ebay records to be done so I can get some money to pay some of the bills and life expenses around here...

2. This question is standard. But really interesting for me. Tell me how you were involved in punk hardcore music? What special you find in this style of music?

I have been living in the past this week I guess it's because I realize that the adult crash is coming. I'm going to lose my freedom but that will allow me move, and to finally become an adult.
So as you asked if I remember how I got into this music. As many other "kids" do they are exposed to punk rock through skateboarding and thats how I found Minor Threat in high school. Before that I listening to old school hip hop/rap the classics Two very different genres but both about self expression. I grew up in Detroit michigan on the north west side in a nice colonial style 2 story house. I remember seeing pictures of the area when my grandma and grandpa just had it built and there were almost no houses around the area in the 40s if i remember.
So in my high school years I went to Milford high school and I had already been a skater and exposed to some underground music besides rap and I was in the same homeroom as Matt Weeks. It's through him and Scott Ray and other punk kids at the time did I learn about hardcore.
They would tell me about going down to Detroit for "shows" and as we drove around while skating I heard tapes. Matt had a mowhawk, black leather jacket and had already a big knowledge of punk music. He would shortly later form one of the early sxe hardcore bands from Mi named Relapse, and two of the members would then form Current and Scott Ray would also join on 2nd vocals.

Before that though I got tapes from Matt and some of my other skater friends and got into the music through them. Strangely enough though before I started CTW I had remembering of putting out a record of my friends rap stuff it never happened but we ended up like making an insert for it at the time. I had also planned a few other releases in the back of my mind for some reason I assumed that Born against and Rorschach would let me do a record for them because I was making flyers for shows for them as i started distributing records and things at shows. Obviously that never happened but the spark for DIY was there in 1990, 1991. I had been communicating with people and buying records and zines. I ended up putting out a GB bootleg 7" from a tape a German pen pal sent me and I used that money a long with working at a Pizza place to save some money. I purchased a 7" from Upstate records and a long with it came the Oversight demo. One day I asked Dave through the mail would they like to do a 7" because I had decided to start a label and so Conquer The World Records was born. The name came from one of my favorite bands of the time Bad Religion. I knew my label had to be special, the name had to be striking and rebellious and certainly to this day reflects my certain level of delusions of grandeur. My memory is sort of good but this would be considered paraphrasing really.

3. For my opinion Oversight was progressive band for that time. They begin to play classic 90’s newschool hardcore adding emo elements one of the first. And I think they give many influence for famous 90’s emotional hardcore bands like Shoulder, Split Lip, Empathy,Enkindel. Are you agree with me? Can you tell some interesting facts about this band, short biography maybe? Where played members of Oversight? Tell please story of Conquer The World Records. Your memoirs about shows, bands, records.

Well it certainly possible that Oversight influenced those bands as I put out the record before all those bands formed but I never thought about it in the context that you have suggested. All I knew is it was something that I liked and as far as where Oversight came from influenced wise you'd have to ask Dave Palmer the guitarist.
Oversight was Dave Palmer, Shane Durgee, Pat on Drums and kid they knew named Jay who was into Alternative and Goth.
Why did Shane durgee decided to sing in his own style when it was the around the same time or before he started Earth Crisis? I don't know.
I've never encountered this question as most people just overlook the Oversight record in my catalog for the most part at least thats my feeling about it. When I began selling the record at shows and stuff most people were not not familiar with it but some bought it and it possibly could of influenced early players. There was also another band which I think Dave really liked called Momentum from CT if i remember which has a similar style.

It was about this time when I started getting respected and through this record I met people who helped me which did in sequence could of influenced Empathy. A guy named Ron Jasin printed my covers for me as I met him through the "scene" it was around this time I met Jay Palumbo and was somehow asked if I wanted to sing in his band.
I don't even know where the idea came from because I never sang in a band but Jay Palumbo and Ron Jasin had a band called Provisional. and I ended up singing with them for a short time. We recorded a demo and I added some vocals and then Ron did a zine called Detroit Rock City and the provisional. 7" came with it.

It was not on the label.... later on i would be asked to leave the band because my voice would go out because I'd be all out throat screaming and well I wasn't very talented.

The band would run it's course and it's this time where shows at U of D ground where going on put on my Eric Z and sometimes me. Chronologically this might be off but you will get the idea.ї

this was all 1992-1993 era

There were bands in Detroit like Richochet whom I was supposed to put out the 7" but it was on Initial Records as it just started up.

Graham, Nathan and Kevin played in Bind (pre empathy)

There was a growing community of kids that surrounded itself from this Grounds University of Detroit show space

So Provisional disbanded and Jay was asked to sing for Bind and they became Empathy which is why Kevin played on the first Empathy 7" on Element records
Eric Zimbowiecz's label the kid running the Grounds shows for the most part.

Now... 92 ish or so is where Chokehold came into being...

I had been introduced to Jeff Beckman through his fanzine and I got sent an ancient Chokehold tape I mean it's the first stuff they did and it wasn't very mature. It was very sloppy and at this time they were playing fast material.

They had been a band and doing their split and 7" up there in Hamilton and somehow I got a More Than Ever demo maybe from Jeff or something I don't remember

Snapcase was kind of big at the time here and they ended up playing at the Shelter and Chokehold opened and here i was like the only one going off and knowing thier music. After the show I remember going into the Van and talking to the band and talked to them about doing the More Than Ever demo as a 7"

How do I remember this stuff? Crazy

So we talked about it and after this is when I setup the Slugfest, Chokehold, Earth Crisis show... at Grounds.

This is the show where I met Scott Vogel because he ended up destroying our microphone. The Earth Crisis 7" all out war had just came out and I had them come to Detroit and they drove in a car with NO insurance, NO paperwork nothing and played.

Eventually we decided that the Prison Of Hope would become a 12"

See I knew about Earth Crisis because after I did the Oversight 7" I ended up going on a road trip to Syracuse to meet the band and thats when I learned about the Syracuse scene at the Lost Horizon. We did that record, and I ended up doing the Framework 7" with Dave Palmer as a split. Framework was Shane Durgee singing for Earth Crisis but in a more melodic overall fashion.

Honestly I don't think I heard Slugfest but I knew they had a demo because Shane was talking about them. That's why Chokehold slowed down from the fast paced hardcore they were playing to the crunchy mosh core parts on the More Than Ever demo. The kids of Hamilton were going down to Buffalo and they took influence from Slugfest.

At least this is how I remember it and interpret it.

the time frame of this and in the order of which they happened is suspect but it was relatively around the same.

However I do distinctly remember while in Syracuse at the lost Horizon met a one Hans Verbeke who was from Belgium. He had a band called Blindfold and I either got the 7" from him or became pen pals with him and we traded records. That is how i opened and created a bridge between the stuff I was doing in the USA and became the first label to show interest to release European bands.

This is all really important history in a microcosmic sort of way.

So the Chokehold record came out and I did that record with money my Mom gave me from cashing in an insurance policy. I mean i don't know what I was thinking except just doing the records. Nothing was business it was just however could i get the records done.

Josh Grabelle purchased the record from my mail order far before he started Trustkill records

I went on tour with Chokehold, it was a strange situation. Two guys from New Zealand were staying with them. I want to say Dean and don't remember? Whom played in HC bands over there later on and this was 93 me Dean his buddy were in one van and Chokehold in the other.

I had the Red / Clear copies of the Prison of Hope at this time on this tour.

I can't the time sequences i'm prolly mixing things up

But anyways as a side note I went up to Hamilton to record the Prison of Hope record and paid the bill if i remember. It was in a decent studio but neither the guy nor the bands members really knew how to produce a record and come to think of it they prolly didn't care how it sounded. I sang backups on the Chokehold record thats me screaming on "lies" I was a monster when my voice worked.\

Let me ask Chris what the other guys name was on the tour...

I want to say that i had some of Red Clear copies shipped ahead of time for the Chokehold tour but ended up getting the rest at Josh Grabelles house? Not sure about that. I know one of the bands I had the records shipped to someones house. I am pretty sure it was Chokehold.

We distributed records...

Through our own means that being funnelling through the DIY method. We all used to run distros, because everyone who had labels had been trading records, there were some DIY mailorders and there was of course. (listening to lifeitme background now getting all excited while I'm doing this record blasting it in ym apartment in the projects of Detroit/Warren)

There was of course zines, and magazines and everyone advertised in MRR Maximum Rock n Roll so it was very mailorder based. Also something I learned from Revelation is that you make flyers and littles ads for your upcoming records and or current releases in your records as an insert. You made a catalog or what have you.

People were always very hungry for records. For finding out about "new" music. I would buy records with never hearing or knowing ANYTHING about a band. It was truely a beautiful time in my life.

I used to cry when listening to records. That's how personal this music is to me. Remembering one of your earlier questions.

Melodic riffs and singing and generally having more melody than mosh has been my leaning. Hence Empathy, Shoulder, Vanilla etc.

Ok well as I mentioned about meeting Hans Verbeke a name that you will recognize from many important Belgium based bands and labels. I decided to put out the Shortsight 7" because I had found these new bands from Belgium such as Nations on Fire, Blindfold, Spirit of Youth and Shortsight from Hans compilation and pen pal relationship. Come to think of it i used to write my ass off people all over the word in the scene and trade tapes, records, letters all the time. So I was considering doing either Blindfold or Shortsight and SS came first because I had been writing Saskia and had a mail crush on her honestly haha. But it was all just in my head through letters but we did the record and that came out the same time or maybe even slightly before the chokehold record.

We were all, the band and I really excited about the glossy covers and that record was pressed on 5 different colors at Erika records. Same place where the Chokehold album was pressed initially. The quality of vinyl here was very high.

The same time my relationship with Blindfold had long since developed and they sent me a tape of the Restrain the Thought record and there was just a unique quality about it that I loved. It was drastically different than most music and people grasped for comparisons and they would say Shelter. Really they sounded very unique especially the vocal style of Wim.

So Hans had this guy do the layout and it was very slick and artistic and colorful and I believe even the cover pictures were taken by Hans father. The one thing I love about Restrain the Thought is the freedom they used to put other music ideas in. How do you get a Violin in a punk hardcore song? Also there was female vocals add by Hans girlfriend and that record was just very original to me. It happened, I realized it was different and it was special. I honestly didn't care if other people did or not.

I knew it was. That was the first release I did with an LP/CD combo and there was I think 300 copies pressed on purple vinyl and the rest black. The CD has some bonus tracks the vinyl did not. It received mixed reviews but in the long run it was influential in the music and influential that it was on an american label.

Your coming at potentially listening to it some many years later but consider that I put that out in 93-94 there was little like it at the time and really just the unique vocals and overall approach it's still unique at least I think so.

What do you think of the record, are you familliar with the release? It's a european legend of a release.

The backlash 7" was a 4 way split. I had made communications with them and actually way before this record I picked up the demo one time when I was in New York city so I knew who they were. I didn't have the resources so I just helped get the record done. I would be lucky to find one in my collection. It was very Revelation style.

4. Mike, can you tell some words about conflict of Chokehold and Abnegation? Was there really some fight between them? What was the reason they don't love each other?

Well it's pretty obvious what the conflict is there. Abnegation at least at the start was millitant sxe pro life....

I think there was a debate on stage. It was a show in Buffalo I think and I was there. We saw this band that basically was Earth Crisis JR what we called them. If that is the incident you are referring to.

One of the original generation of emo bands, Rain Still Falls was an energetic quintet from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that existed from 1992-1998. They released very little recorded material and are most known for their contribution to the first volume of Deep Elm’s legendary “Emo Diaries” series called “Beginner Swimmer”. They quoted Rites of Spring and Quicksand as inspirations.

I love this band. I love this seven inch. Musically they were much more better than Vegan Reich and Statement, ideologically they stayed for the same ideas. I know that later many guys from this band lose their vegan or edge but when I think about Raid I remember how they change my mind about many things. Liar is a straight edge hardcore band from the H8000 scene in Belgium. Early ’90s they introduced influences of thrash, black and death metal in hardcore, when there were only emo and youthcrew bands on European soil. Debut cd Falls of Torment was released through Goodlife Recordings in ‘95 and shook the scene with it’s heavy Slayer-influenced hardcore.

In ‘97 Invictus was released, one of the best metallic hardcore albums ever from Europe and far beyond. In ‘99 Deathrow Earth was released which is considered their darkest album. After this album guitarist and co-founder Josh Fury left the band to focus on CONGRESS. 2 guitarists replaced him. In 2001 Liar’s Hell was released on Alveran Records, and in 2005 Murder Manifesto on GSR Music, which was very brutal, dark and black metalcore alike.

In 2006 Liar called it quits. They also released some split cd’s, toured Europe lots of times, toured Japan, and still live the vegan/veggie straight edge lifestyle.

In 2008 however they announced a comeback.

Pain Runs Deep did really start in late 90s, recorded a decent MCD, gigged a bit and went into a long hiatus to be back among the living in 2008. Refreshed, rejuvanted and reinforced they delivered bunch of quality shows, crushing all over the place, getting enormous feedback from the crowd who turned out to be totally new generation of hardcore kids with few of those who stage dove to their songs when they were around for the first time. Show after show, the excitment grew and many kids travelled from all over the country to enjoy their wild stage performance along with the message shouted loud. What seemed to be one time “let’s get together and have some fun at shows” type of thing made them go record few new tunes to encapsulate the energy they drawn from the shows and express their current state of mind - musically and lyrically.

Heavier than ever, highly structured, yet groovy hard hitting riffs, backed by furious vocals is what they created. What they’ve loved listening to hardcore for their lives, they simply poured into their music - from Cro-Mags through Burn, Conviction and Leeway to Burn It Down. Lyrically - still critical look at this world we live in, screaming for balance, harmony and reason.

The New Jersey-based hardcore band Endeavor comprised vocalist Mike Olender, guitarists Kevin Tunney and Mike Duffy, bassist Mark Zeveney and drummer Mike Rummel. After issuing their debut Crazier Than a Shithouse Rat on the Conversion label in 1997, they signed to Trustkill for the follow-up Constructive Semantics, released later that same year.

...and so it was, late in the spring of 1991 in a musty basement in colonia, what was to become one of jersey's most underrated hardcore bands was borne into existence. consisting of justin flemm on drums, john stanley on guitar and eric tisch sharing 2nd guitar and vocal duties, they borrowed good friend dan sobon's bass player nate gluck to round out the line up. 2 months, 7 songs and 1 demo later they began having trouble with justin blowing off practices and showing a lack of interest. they quickly replaced him with pat tanzola whom john and eric had previously been in bands with. eric dropped playing 2nd guitar, concentrated on his vocal stylings and in april 1992 they recorded a 7 song cassette called "viewpoint" which they released on their own label, re-action records. as time passed they began to realize that having a 2nd guitar player would beef up the sound, so the decision went through to pick up long standing friend and fan dan sobon, resulting in the musical reunion of dan and nate. having come from the wrong side of the tracks in the burgeoning central hersey hardcore scene, so to speak, they constantly fought hard for shows to play. in the early days they threw shows in the basement at john's house and affectionately dubbed them "terror in the basement". later days showed nate and john setting up weekly shows at the down under in new brunswick for a solid 10 month period. they began to build up a strong following by bringing in all different kinds of kids, people who were not concerned with who you knew or how cool you were. playing shows in the tri-state area and watching the scene begin to flourish and thrive once more, having themselves played an integral part in the rebirth and refortification of the jersey scene, they decided to head westward to play shows with new friends unbroken and outspoken. they found the west warm and inviting and revisited there a few more times. with failed attempts at finding the right record label, they continued to release their own material. they finally came into their own with "hold on" and the self-titled 5 song 7 inch on orphaned records, winning over even their harshest critics. people began to realize the emotion, persistence and potential they possessed. they proved time and time again their dedication to the scene. throughout their 5 year existence they have shared the stage with likes of sick of it all, the bad brains, leeway, d.r.i., vision, outspoken, shades apart, h2o, unbroken, shelter, dog eat dog, breakdown, the cromags, lifetime, mouthpiece, ressurection, strife, warzone (r.i.p.-raybeez), ignite, function, blackspot, farside, 108, bloodlet, coalesce, crown of thornz, bulldoze, murphy's law, 25 ta life, ashes, slapstick, christie front drive and countless local bands across the united states. as the days turned into months and then to years they slowly began to destroy themselves from the inside out. with the problems revolving around the failed attempt to release their cd, they called it quits in june 1996, almost 5 years to the day. on november 9, 1996 they played a final show at middlesex county college. from the few kids at their first show to the nearly 700 at their last, they proved you can do it your own way without anyone's help. they reunited in january 1999 to play a benefit show for good friend and big fan matt leveton.

dan sobon went on to form for the love of... and currently plays in a band called she's still breathing.

john stanley also played in for the love of..., ex number five and is currently rocking out in my shining one.

nate gluck played in for the love of..., vision, weapon x and is currently playing in ensign and the fire still burns.

pat tanzola is a postman.

Forced Down was a band that started, essentially out of members of many other bands It became an idea, the idea became a sound, the sound had a look and identity… And it was all built out of what was not happening in our local scene… It never wanted a Label, it never wanted a scene, it wanted to be for everyone… This, at the very time the “scene” was becoming more and more cliquish… we would not…from our artwork to our recordings and our interviews… we were only to be, a band called forced down… The band started in motion by Mike Down and Joey Piro…Mike was singing in local H/C heros “Amenity” who were based out of the south of San Diego in Chula Vista, (all thou he lived in Pacific Beach) and Joey was playing drums in SD Legends PitchFork… Led by John Reese, but based round, and practicing in the North County region of Encinitas…Mike would drive up with John and attend practices, tape recording their songs… He and Joey would talk about similar interests in music which led to them jamming out with a couple bass players…In the blink of and eye they decided to form a band… MIke brought in good friend and singer Rob Osbourne to fill vocal duties and Bass Player Chris Pippin. Rob originally from Texas, was attending school and living in the Kearny Mesa area…Chris was playing in a band the Abyss, and was living in Point Loma… Many Names for the band were tossed around…but it was Rob aka Robb/Base that would brainstorm a “SSD” song title from “the kids will have there say” album entitled “Forced Down Your Throat”…we clipped the end and felt it represented a lot of what mtv and other institutions were doing to the kids of the 80’s…Forcing Products and Culture thru a little machine called Capitalism…today it is no less than ironic how the machine has sold the very parts of what we were creating in opposition to it then… This first incarnation would practice for about 4 months and track a 5-song demo intitled “forgot”… It was crude, recorded 10-9-89 at Tony house of sound using an 8 channel 2 track…and of course recorded live…with a Xeroxed cover…and the first time the DOWN SIDE logo was ever printed on something…we were off… full of idealism, love and anger…of note is the liner note on the tape which was sort of a mission statement for us…it read… As the social values in our society becomes more set in stone, the individual is forgotten. When what the individual stands for goes against the ideas of the mass, and is considered a threat to order, be it right or wrong—-they are forced down—- disciplined to maintain “the order” Some conform, some resist, some fall, and they are forgotten… “time to rise from our knees and live on our feet”

Forced Down is one of the bands who played pre-newschool hardcore. For me Forced Down, Amenity, Hard Stance and Against The Wall are bands who started 90's newschool era, but Forced Down are forgotten and unknown. If you wanna know from what music started 90's this band need your attention.

Spawn was also a straight edge hardcore band out of Germany in the mid-90’s. The band released a 7 inch (also released on Crucial Response Records) in 1993, and then a full length album on New Age Records in 1996. They also released a split 7 inch with Feeding the Fire in 1994.

For me this best German newschool hardcore band with really unique European sound which can be described as mix of classic 90's chugga and early 90's metalcore. Heavy riffs, depressive screaming vocal and quick guitar parts makes this band easy recognized.

And their LP is fucking RARE!!! Just saw it once in life and bought it)))

I payed on 22th of February 2011 – (Unique Transaction ID #6W965446RG112182J) for Deathbed 7’’ pre-order. I was waiting for this shit for a long time! On July I wrote to Geoff – singer of Deathbed, asking contacts of man who is running Nothing In Vain Records. He gave me facebook page of Garrett. I wrote to him asking where is my fucking order – pre-orders begin to send in the middle of May as I remember. He answered me and told that I will get my record in next 2 weeks cause he was very busy, didn’t have time for sending. I said OK, I will wait. I was waiting 2 months again. Again no package. I wrote again asking – Man, what’s the fuck? Where is my package. I am totally bored of waiting for it. 9 fucking months!!! For some shitty pre –order. Garrett wrote me – Don’t worry Max, you’ll get everything this month. Ok. I was waiting again. 1.5 months again. And now I am totally fucked up for this situation. And wanna say that Nothing In Vain is shitty hardcore label and that Garrett should fuck himself if he didn’t have time to send my package for 9 month!!!

Sometimes focusing on daily life instead of working on a career with grim stubbornness turns out to be a healthier approach towards creating music, as it adds a purposeful flow to a mundane ritual. Constraint are a band that prove that there is something to be said for an idealist and the every-day thinker. This new school four-piece from Hannover never felt the need to rush things in their fresh musical careers, but somehow they have managed to release a MCD, the Breath 7”, and their first full-length album, Changes, since the band’s formation in April 1995. A year into their existence they recorded their first demo Soulgrind, which was later discovered by the German underground label Life Force Records in the summer of the same year. The debut MCD, Twelveeighteen, which was recorded in November of 1996 and released in March of 1997, established Constraint as new members of the growing European hardcore scene. The Breath 7” continued to strengthen their early reputation, and the band was soon after ready to sign to Kingfisher Records in summer 1998. Changes, (actually titled … What We Are Is What We Do And What We Do Always Changes) was recorded in their hometown of Hannover at the Institut fr Wohlklangforschung studios with producer Willy Dammeier, who is known for his work on the Words vs. Nothing release from Veil. Although playing an entire tour is something Constraint would still like to accomplish (conquering new shores and territories also is a current goal for the band) the band can feel good when looking back on their numerous gigs with the likes of Hot Water Music, Turmoil, Integrity, Earth Crisis, Rykers, Fury Of Five, Ignite, By The Grace Of God and many others.

Beltaine - post hardcore/rock from Rhode Island. In the summer of 1993, James Quigley, along with friends Way O’Malley and Henry Evans began creating music together. Through word of mouth, they found drummer Sean Gilchrist and guitarist Paul Vieira who had been playing together for years. Practicing for hours in a small barn out in Charlestown, Rhode Island the five members wrote songs quickly and easily. In just a few months they were recording their four song cassette demo at Sampson Studios in Tiverton, RI with engineer Keith Souza (now owner of Machines With Magnets in Pawtucket, RI). Numerous local shows followed. The band recorded more songs for a 3 song vinyl EP that eventually came out on Watermark records, though you would be hard pressed to actually find any anywhere! Later in ‘94 after a show at Club Babyhead, Henry was asked to leave due to “musical differences” and the band drafted in Shawn St. Martin who, despite playing some guitar, had never played bass before. More practicing and writing of songs followed with a recording for a full length album/demo for Columbia Records. Unsatisfied with the end result, the band decided not to release it and resumed recording other songs at Sampson. A 2 song vinyl EP and five song cassette were released on the Atomic Action label from Middletown, RI. Way decided to leave Beltaine in the early summer of ‘96. Deciding to continue as a four piece, the band sounded more focused and powerful and went on to record their full length cd for Atomic Action, titled Crowning The Caged Kid. In the next year waiting for the cd’s release, Beltaine would play some incredible live shows with bands such as Jawbox, Bluetip, the Warmers, Kerosene 454 and others. Drummer Sean Gilchrist did a short stint drumming for Dischord recording artists Bluetip on their Feb/March ‘97 tour. Sean left Beltaine in November ‘97 and now plays in the studio/live for songwriter Leah Carlson. The remaining members found a new drummer and continued on for over a year as Woken By Wire, releasing an excellent 10” EP on Corleone Records. Guitarist Paul Vieira now plays in The Chinese Stars. The Doughnuts have proven that the girls can rock just as much as the guys. Their style of abrasive hardcore with melodic elements established them as one of the underground’s most interesting bands. Although the music of the Doughnuts was labeled “hardcore,” with Feel Me Bleed, they added a more melodic approach that broke them out to a larger audience. These five Swedish girls had a progressive sound and message that was a milestone for women in music. They embraced any obvious gender agenda, and instead, they let the intensity of their music and message speak for itself. Their music was an attempt to capsize hatred and turn it into an illusion.
